Years ago I taught English in an international college which was a religious foundation. On Christmas Eve everyone sang Silent Night in their own language. It was truly magical.

I have just listened to it. Absolutely beautiful. So pure.

I love the way that they look at each other from time to time and are smiling all the way through. Their pronunciation of Merry Christmas in different languages is excellent, too. It is the loveliest recording of Silent Night l have heard for a very long

A beautiful Carol.

Joseann Thu 21-Dec-23 17:45:09

Truly beautiful.
We visited Vienna last December and my one regret was not going to listen to a concert at the boys' choir school.
Stille Nacht was written and first performed over 200 years ago in a little church near Salzburg.

Our school took us to a performance by the Vienna Boys Choir in Liverpool approximately 57 years ago . It was wonderful but I don’t think those four boys were there then . They sounded beautiful .

Thank you for sharing this beautiful rendition, Musicgirl and LucyAnna. Such a pure sound.

You're right, Joseann; I believe an Austrian priest wrote the words and and asked the church organist to set it to music suitable for guitar when they found themselves without a working church organ one Christmas Eve.

I spent a summer working in that village in Austria, St Wolfgang am See. A beautiful church situation on the edge of the lake.

My favourite Christmas song is White Christmas. After all these years it still brings a lump to my throat. I loved the film as well and only watched it again a few hours ago.
