It's because she was a co-writer.

Slade. I wish it could be Christmas every day.
Played from every November in a local shopping centre

The Jonah Lewie one, ‘Stop The Cavalry’.

Every time I hear it, I think, ‘yeah, wish you would stop the whole damn song’.!

All of them annoy me until December!

Slade 'I wish it could be Christmas every day' is top of my Oh no, not again' list too.

I tend to sing along when shopping - sure I'm pretty high on some people's dislike lists too!

Grannybags Fri 18-Nov-22 20:58:05

Most of them!

MissAdventure Fri 18-Nov-22 20:59:25

All of them, apart from one.

Mariah Carey, Shaking Stevens, and Wham top my most disliked.

Slade sang So here it is, Merry Christmas It gets on my nerves more than any other Christmas song because it is played by every supermarket on repeat from November 1sr until Christmas Eve. It was Wizzard who sang I wish it could be Christmas every day. Still annoying but not as bad as the first one. I’m not keen on Mariah Carey’s offering but it is positively world class compared with Stop the Cavalry! As for Jingle Bells…. I love proper Christmas carols, though, and my piano and violin pupils start learning them in November in order to have a repertoire of them by Christmas.

Callistemon21 Fri 18-Nov-22 21:01:48

I shall be practising them all over the next week 🙂

Including Adeste Fideles!

I don’t like Cliff Richards Mistletoe & Wine and Whams Last Christmas.
One of my favourites is Chuck Berry’s Run Rudolph Run, it’s so upbeat.

Whams Last Christmas

We went to see the film!

When a child is born makes me cringe.
Particularly the part where Johnny Mathis speaks.

MissAdventure Fri 18-Nov-22 21:06:00

Rocking around the christmas tree is awful, only battered by the terrible video of Shaky in a christmas jumper, playing snowballs with lots of rosy cheeked children.

Grannybags Fri 18-Nov-22 21:07:19

Mary's boy child by Boney M makes me cringe

MissAdventure Fri 18-Nov-22 21:14:44

Driving home for christmas, with all that twinkly music...

Just thought, I don't mind 'play the pipes of peace' or whatever its called (by wings?)

Grandmadinosaur Fri 18-Nov-22 21:20:17

I can’t stand Simply having a wonderful Christmas time by Paul McCartney.

Urmstongran Fri 18-Nov-22 21:25:10

Ooh all my NOT favourites here!

Witzend Fri 18-Nov-22 21:27:44

I do like Wham’s Last Christmas.

But apart from that I really only like proper carols, sung by proper choirs. I can’t bear ‘popular’ singers doing them with breathy or screechy voices, or trying to put ‘expression’ into them, or the arrangers buggering them about and putting twiddly bits in.

LEAVE PROPER CAROLS ALONE!.
Thank you.

MissAdventure Fri 18-Nov-22 21:28:06

They could use these as a trial in I'm a celebrity.

Lock you in a box and make you listen to them whilst covered in tinsel and quality street.

Lucca Fri 18-Nov-22 21:31:15

All of them.

Blissfully I have only had to buy presents for two grandchildren (agreement among adult family plus friends for no presents ) so I don’t need to go round the shops hearing all those ghastly Xmas songs.

Grannybags Fri 18-Nov-22 21:31:50

That would be torture for me MissA! (except maybe the quality streets...)

MissAdventure Fri 18-Nov-22 21:33:17

Witzend
Have you heard Annie Lennox singing carols?
She is very easy to listen to. smile
