Oh no! My favourite chocolate is being discontinued! šŸ˜±

I nipped into Thorntonā€™s in the square downstairs earlier and the lady in the shop said they had been asked to let all customers know that the chocolate gingers are being phased out. She had one or two boxes in her stockroom but no more orders will be processed. I shall miss them! ā€¦ I bought 3 bags whilst I was there.

Can you order them online? I noticed an ad for Thorntons online on Facebook last week.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 14-Mar-24 15:09:19

Iā€™ve just looked and yes you can and they offer 10% off a first order.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Mar-24 15:17:20

Well they are still in the shops (for now) but if manufacturing stops then I expect even on line supplies will cease?

Grandmadinosaur Thu 14-Mar-24 15:18:21

Yes I think youā€™re right.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Mar-24 15:30:37

Anyone else going to miss them?

Green and Black have a ginger chocolate you might enjoy - so does Hotel Chocolate I believe.

Urmstongran Their my favourite too. I havenā€™t been able to find a shop that sells them so been buying online. I find them the best ones, canā€™t find any to match them so far but Iā€™ve had fun trying šŸ¤£

No not at all. Eugh

Waitrose do nice packs of dark chocolate ginger. A favourite of Dbro and a dd.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Mar-24 16:10:27

It wonā€™t make any difference to me. I never buy chocolate.

I'm not a fan of candied ginger, but I understand when a favourite snack is discontinued! I'm sure you will find a new fav soon. Meanwhile, stock up! At least you found out beforehand, instead of being shocked when you couldn't find them anymore.

Fortnum & Mason do a box ā€¦. šŸ¤£

How annoying !
There are lots of alternatives .
I haven't made them for a while , but have you ever made truffles ?
I've made all sorts .
I think that ginger truffles could easily be made .
Messy , but cheap !

My favourites are Border Biscuits Chocolate & Ginger which are still Widley available.

Grammaretto Sun 17-Mar-24 10:15:40

I love chocolate gingers

Calendargirl Sun 17-Mar-24 10:53:51

I donā€™t like ginger in any form, so it wonā€™t affect me (selfish).

Love any chocolate though.

nanna8 Sun 17-Mar-24 10:58:04

Aldi choc is the best - and itā€™s cheap.

GrammarGrandma Sun 17-Mar-24 11:06:40

I like chocolate ginger, if the chocolate is dark. I eat only dark chocolate.

missdeke Sun 17-Mar-24 11:38:52

Anything made of ginger is fine for me, love dark chocolate ginger but as I rarely see the Thorntons one I shan't miss it particularly. When I was a child every Christmas my dad used to buy a jar of candied ginger in syrup and a pot of cream just for him and me. The others didn't like it but ginger always reminds me of my dad.

HurdyGurdy Sun 17-Mar-24 12:01:27

Oh no. I could literally weep. I love their chocolate gingers.

I moved to them after I couldn't get Terry's chocolate gingers any more, and the Thornton's ones are lovely. My mum used to get me a box of Terry's chocolate gingers every year for Christmas. She died in a September, and it was at the Christmas that year, that it really hit home to me that she was really gone, as there were no chocolate gingers under the tree for me.

GrauntyHelen Sun 17-Mar-24 12:35:27

My favourite too but the last few years since Terry's disappeared I have made my own

First world problem, get a llife. Give those in Ukraine, Palestine and Israel a thought, those people are freeing and starving and sleeping out under the stars because their homes have been bombed.

MissAdventure Sun 17-Mar-24 12:40:11

hmm

Amalegra Sun 17-Mar-24 13:04:50

I dislike ginger but my mumā€™s favourite was chocolate ginger (Terryā€™s). It wasnā€™t easy to get but she would have been most upset if it hadnā€™t been available as it was the only chocolate she really liked!
