I've just been sent a pattern for a mug cosy to keep your tea/coffee warm while being distracted by GN .

GadaboutGran Sat 17-May-14 14:35:36

Oh What a wonderful idea Galen - do pm me a copy. So much energy is wasted apparently on all the power used to boil water for all the cups of tea & coffee that are poured down the sink or reheated in the microwave.

Far too complex for my poor brain Galen

JessM Sat 17-May-14 14:56:07

Gadabout that is just the intro - I'm waiting for the actual instructions. Or maybe we are supposed to do a tension square first to check gauge?
Do you think it will be OK to do it in one colour Galen?

Galen Sat 17-May-14 15:16:01

I'd really have to think about that?
I suppose you could if you really, really wanted to?
But is that what you really really want? Wouldn't it be better to add a little spice to your life?

Brilliant Galen I have crocheted a cover for my iPhone as a "learning "exercise- DH guessed (wrongly) I was making a willy warmer blush

Galen Sat 17-May-14 17:23:09

Have you a very tiny iPhone? Or has Mr S a problem in that department.
If so, I have seen ads for devices that expand it.
I wonder if you can get creams that act like lip plumbers?

Galen Sat 17-May-14 17:23:29

I typed plumpers

MiceElf Sat 17-May-14 17:29:07

I used to make patchwork egg cosies to go with the patchwork tea cosy and oven glove. Mind, it was in the 70s

JessM Sat 17-May-14 18:58:27

Fuel costs are going up though... What kind of wool was it again?

Galen Sat 17-May-14 19:00:33

Worsted

Galen Sat 17-May-14 19:01:03

I'll put a picture on the picture file if I can

Galen Sat 17-May-14 19:13:14

Tried can't ! Sorry, but it's all striped.
I suppose if you were worried about heat loss, you could use Arran or super chunky wool.
You'd need a bigger hook then.

moomin Sat 17-May-14 19:57:48

Can't crochet

Galen Sat 17-May-14 20:06:53

It's very easy. I'm just about to embark on a 92""X 76" cover my Aunt. It's based on sunflowers and is lovely and bright.
My Gran taught me when I was about 5-7 but I haven't used it since. I've taught myself in the last two years.
There are very good video tutorials on u tube.

Ana Sat 17-May-14 20:08:56

'cover my Aunt'? Is that a euphemism? confused

Galen Sat 17-May-14 20:14:49

Missed out for my aunt

moomin Sat 17-May-14 20:44:29

Still chortling at that one Galen - 'cover my aunt'! My Gran used to crochet, altho' she taught me to knit, she never got around to teaching me to crochet. Tell me, is it possible with knobbly arthritic fingers tho?

GadaboutGran Sat 17-May-14 22:09:43

Soutra I picked up one of those in Namibia woven out of reeds. Perfect contraceptive I believe.

Galen Sun 18-May-14 08:18:09

moomin
I have arthritic fingers.
I find the movement is in the wrist.

soutra how's thewilly-warmer iPad cover coming along?

Ariadne Sun 18-May-14 21:04:02

Why would you want a crocheted mug cosy? Just asking. confused

Elegran Sun 18-May-14 21:06:24

To keep your coffee hot, of course. Duh!

Galen Sun 18-May-14 21:30:57

And they are such charming additions to your 'with it' country style kitchen.
Of course you really need an Aga (preferably Khan) to go with them!smile
