Scams and fraud

I think I may have been scammed

I decided to sell some clothes on Vinted. A friend had recommended it
I spent ages doing descriptions and uploading photos and as soon as the first item went live, I had a message from Vinted that it had been sold.
I was then asked to press a link.
The link said "are you sure you want to leave Vinted"
Instead of following my instinct to stay on the site, I found myself giving bank details to someone who said they had paid for the garment
There was no confirm button so I hope I haven't actually parted with my card details or if I have they are not in a criminal's hands

Soon after I had 2 messages from Vinted saying 2 more items had sold and there was no request for card details, only posting instructions.
There is no obvious help on the site.
Should I panic and cancel my bank card?

Contact your bank straightaway and explain what's happened.

I think it might be wise to cancel your card - contact your bank ASAP.

I have been selling on Vinted too and the money is paid into your bank account by Vinted, once the item has been received so you never have to give bank details to buyers. Sounds like a definite scam via the link. Hope you get refunded.

why? my comment was incredibly rich in helpfulness and detail one could only dream of getting!

I would have reported your post too, if I had seen it first.

Very unkind and unhelpful response to a lovely lady, whom I happen to have met on many occasions.😡

Oh dear. Thanks everyone. I am trying to get through to my bank who have a stupid multiple choice report system.

I've reported it to Vinted who thanked me and say they are admonishing that "buyer"

Yes cancel . I was scammed by someone using vinted name.

Grammaretto if you aren’t able to get through to your bank try dialling 159. It’s an urgent fraud investigation helpline and according to Martin Lewis most major banks are signed up to it.

Grannynannywanny Thu 30-Nov-23 15:53:31

Details about the 159 number here…

Who is this SillyBigJill ?

Grammaretto Thu 30-Nov-23 17:10:44

Thanks everyone especially grannynannywanny . I have followed your advice and got through to my bank's fraud department where I was told that these things happen and not that I'm a silly old woman.confused

My card has been cancelled and there hasn't been any recent activity on it.
Phew!
One thing he said was that if you use PayPal, it is wise to avoid the friends and family route as PayPal will not compensate for loss on there.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 30-Nov-23 17:12:13

Excellent news. A huge relief for you.

I had a scare yesterday. I paid Wikipedia £2 as I do every year then noticed it came up as WikiMedia on my credit card statement (I was looking at it the next day)
I contacted my bard provide4 and they reassured be all was well. They said it was always best to check.

Ziplok Thu 30-Nov-23 17:17:49

I’m so pleased to hear of this positive outcome, Grammaretto.
You are most certainly not a silly old woman - these fraudsters are very clever and convincing.

PamelaJ1 Thu 30-Nov-23 17:17:53

Always best to check messages too!!!

Marydoll Thu 30-Nov-23 17:25:48

What a relief Grammaretto!

I will note grannynannywanny's advice.
