Two known and two unknown soldiers were buried today in Arras in "one of the many cemeteries which LITTER the French countryside around here" I quote the prat on the BBC on radio 2 today. Any pedant think of a better word? Grace or proliferate or bless.

"Which commemorate the many who died defending the French countryside around here . . . "

Does he think that the soldiers were being very untidy about where they went to die, and should have been more considerate?

I think it was probably one of those occasions when the presenter or the scriptwriter never considered the literal meaning of the word, just used it instead of 'scattered', which would have been a bit better!

Sorry, 'scatter'.
