I really want to install a water butt, but I have osteoarthritis in my spine and doubt I could bend down to access the tap. I've looked at wall mounted butts but they are super expensive - anyone managed to overcome this problem?

Mine came with a stand - actually three hollow containers that made a round stand when they were stood in a circle. That raised the tap to about twenty inches from the ground, with enough space to put a watering-can underneath to fill up. Would that help?

Ooh yes, it would probably would! Do you know where you got it from?

We have several and they all came with a stand. One we have elevated even more by standing it on bricks. It is quite stable even when full

We got two from eBay and two more from our nearest garden center. One is very large and was delivered free from Amazon .

My water butt came with a stand, I bought it in Aldi. Keep checking because they are sure to be back in the middle aisle. Otherwise Argos, B and Q and maybe B and M.

My water butts have a similar stand, but I just take the lid off and dip the watering can in the top - I find that a much faster way of filling the can than using the tap!

Elegran - thanks - I've just had a quick google and I've found
them with stands and also you can buy a stand separately. Water butts are not my specialist subject so I didn't even think to search for one with a stand or even just a stand. Seems obvious really! Thank you!

Thanks everyone, clearly I was missing the obvious!

The stands with some water butts are quite flimsy round the edges, so make sure you support them properly. Any wobble/gaps and they are liable to distort and split!

You do need a strong stand for it. Before I bought the butt with the stand, I used to have one which I put onto an old wooden coffee table that had seen better days. It stood near the garage, which of course didn't house the car but was full up with assorted stuff. One day I filled it right up with the garden hose from the kitchen tap and went indoors, leaving the garage still wide open. A bit later I heard a loud crash. When I went out to see what had happened, I found the coffee table collapsed with a broken leg, the water butt on its side VERY near the open garage door with a large dent where the side meets the base, and all the water had shot into the garage. It is surprising just how much water a full water butt can hold - and how heavy that water is!

The dent hasn't come out so it doesn't stand straight any more and I wouldn't trust it to stay upright if full of water. The butt now stands against the wall in the garage, and has been demoted to a holder for rakes, hoes and so on.

I bought one last year that is visible from my kitchen. It is an attractive, marbled green with a flower planter on the top. At the moment, it is full of tulips and mini daffs. Much better to look at than a normal butt.

In September last year I tripped and caught my foot on the tap of my water butt . I broke my shoulder in 3 places very badly and it is still very painful. Just to say, be careful. I am so wary of it now.

My two tall water butts have built-in stands so they are very secure. I can easily put bif watering cans underneath the brass taps. They were not cheap butts but I had the same in my last house and ten years later they were good as new and don`t discolour. I do put bags of ceramic hoops in them, they keep the water nice and fresh

These are mine, I also got the linking kit. I did the fixing myself but anyone competent at diy would find the fixing straightforward. Last house I had the taller ones but they would not fit here

I just wanted to update everyone who has given me such sound advise. I am moving from a flat to a bungalow which has a greenhouse and a bit of a garden I can get my teeth into. I went to do some measuring up at the bungalow earlier this week and was able to have a good look around the garden. At the every end, hidden behind some tall shrubs is a potting shed with a water butt - and another water butt behind the garden shed that I didn't even register first time around. A builder friend is going to raise them both up for me. So thank you all, but I can save my money and spend it on something a bit more exciting!
