Travelling to Paris with a grandchild

Hello everyone

I am planning to take my grandchildren to Paris - singly - starting with the 12 year old. I thought we would stay for three nights, in the centre somewhere and I would love to hear about other people's experience and to have some advice about things to do, places to stay, places to go etc. We'd probably fly as it would be from Newcastle.

JaneAnne You could take your 12 year old GC to the Parc de Villette which is a fun science and technology centre.. and get there by taking a canal boat journey from BelleVille.. I also think the Pompidou Centre is fun to visit for the external escalators and the many street performers there.

Ten years too late pascal30 !

oh dear, well spotted.. I wonder why it popped up again..

But oh my goodness this is such an old thread!

Are you still here JaneAnn?

Galeries Lafayette would also be on my list.
Pretty amazing.
The Orsay is fabulous and does (or used to do) guided tours. I think I'd do one of those.

might not be so enthralling for a 22 year old to be dragged around Paris by his/her granny. maybe.

Treating my favorite granddaughters Zoe and Av to a cheeky trip to Paris end of Jan wink. Grandson Joe gets a trip to Wetherspoons as 50% of meals. Felt generous.

Riviera Travel have an excellent short trip to Paris which includes visits to major sites, an evening coach trip to see the lights and some time to do as you please. I went on this a few years ago. It was well organised and not too expensive. The guide was invaluable when a member of the group sadly had her credit card stolen. A friend of mine took her young nephew on the same trip and he loved it.

Another vote for pickpockets, watch out they are watching you I lost my purse, a few Euros but cancelled CCs, just a lot of hassle.
Personally I give Paris a miss these days

This has to be some sort of record, a thread resurrected from 2013. smile

I have been told that La Tour Montparnasse is a cheaper alternative to the Eiffel Tower for great views of Paris and also that the roof of Galérie Lafayette is a must.
