Grrrrrrrrrr

Wheniwasyourage Sun 05-Jun-22 16:30:17

Oh yes, CountessFosco. Every time I hear it, or its friend "almost unique", I can picture my DM with steam coming out of her ears. In fact, that whirring sound you hear as I type this will be her spinning in her grave!

Grandma70s Sun 05-Jun-22 16:34:58

My mother was the same! And now I am.

Doodledog Sun 05-Jun-22 16:43:43

I'll see your 'very unique' and raise you 'work colleague' and 'meet with' grin.

Lucca Sun 05-Jun-22 16:58:45

Over exaggerate

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 05-Jun-22 17:02:06

I will add ‘6a.m. this morning’.

Whom Tyler! The leader of the Pedants' Revolt!
I made that comment, if indeed comment it is, to my eleven year old granddaughter over lunch in the Black Lion today. Of course she knew of Wat of that name, but 'Whom was an eyebrow raiser. Slowly, slowly it dawned on her, knowing me as she does, that it was not as it appeared on the face of it.

Could I be nosey and ask what's this post about???

Mollygo Sun 05-Jun-22 17:28:21

My grrr is ATM machine!

Zoejory Sun 05-Jun-22 17:29:55

Saying very unique, Mine

If something is unique it can't be very unique. Just unique.

One of the only as in ‘One of the only dogs on the bus,’ riles me. What does it mean? confused

I hate ‘mental health’ when it’s used for someone who has problems. We all have mental health. It’s just sometimes good or bad in varying degrees.

BlueBelle Sun 05-Jun-22 18:02:34

No idea mine

Septimia Sun 05-Jun-22 18:11:05

Agree about 'very unique". Misusing "decimate" annoys me, too. I know the modern meaning is less rigid, but the original meaning is the killing of one in ten - hence the "deci" bit.

Grandma70s Sun 05-Jun-22 18:13:59

On television someone is talking about Lake Windermere. That was one that annoyed my mother. ‘Mere’ means lake. No need to say it twice,

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Jun-22 18:14:59

I'm loving all of these!
... it's not just me then.
I hate having to "confirm" my address when they mean "tell me".

rascal Sun 05-Jun-22 18:15:54

Yes drives me mad!

Blossoming Sun 05-Jun-22 18:19:54

Almost unanimous.

Elizabeth27 Sun 05-Jun-22 18:28:34

Added bonus and very rare annoy me.

winterwhite Sun 05-Jun-22 18:32:14

Park up.

FarNorth Sun 05-Jun-22 18:48:51

Several alternatives - there can be only two alternatives.
I think I'm on a loser with that one.

Also, the reason is because.

Wheniwasyourage Sun 05-Jun-22 18:49:08

Too few words rather than too many, but seeing someone described as "ethnic" annoys me. We're all "ethnic" of some description. Do they mean "ethnic minority", which of course means different things in different countries?

Going back to the original thread, I'll offer "meet with".

Wheniwasyourage Sun 05-Jun-22 18:49:51

Oh sorry, Doodledog. You got there before me!

The only dogs allowed on the bus are guide dogs.

Goldie is a guide dog, and as such, she is one of the only dogs allowed on the bus.

What's wrong with that?

No problem. The more outrage the better ?. We can form a movement.
