Hi everyone,
My daughter's wedding is back on for July ?
Does anyone have any recommendations for shops I can buy my outfit?
I've no idea where to start.

Congratulations Foxgloveandroses . You must be really happy, it’s something good to look forward to.

Normally concessions like Jacques Vert in department stores are a good place to start, if you can find one after April 12th!

Depends how much you want to spend, you can find more upmarket trends online or locally, such as mumofthebride.co.uk/ near Birmingham. A bit of Googling will bring you shops in your area. Best to have a chat to the Groom's mum so that you don't clash, and perhaps ask you daughter if there are colours you should avoid. Then there is the hat/fascinator/or nothing question!

If you like a designer who specialises in wedding wear, take a look at Ronald Joyce. They have some lovely quality wedding outfits, including matching Hats, Fascinators, and styles.
They also have Wedding gowns and Bridesmaids Dresses if needed. They have an online webpage, or several stockists Nationwide.

They are quite expensive, but some specialist wedding hire shops sometimes stock a range, or they get sold on via a dress agency when no longer required.

I can’t cope with the mother of the bride outfits, in particular the dreaded fascinator. Just choose a lovely dress and sone nice shoes ...who needs all the matchy matchy stuff !,

I agree with Lucca. Choose something you are comfy in and will wear again.

Another vote for Luccas idea.

Phase Eight have some amazing outfits.

I made my MoB dress because I knew the style I wanted. I also wanted to feel comfy and be able to wear it again in a more casual manner. I bought a jacket and fascinator to match a colour in the dress.

John Lewis online and in store have a vast selection of everything possible . Traditional MoB through to summer frocks and shoes , bags , hats etc.
They also offer a free personal stylist service , currently virtually, but brilliant in person when allowed .

My sons wedding was postponed from June 2020 to June 2021. It’s being held( hopefully) in Corfu. I’d bought a dress last year but now not sure I like it as much ??. Will be searching the internet once again. Looking for a maxi dress that will be cool and look good with sandals.

Lillie Sun 14-Mar-21 09:51:05

Do you mean actual shops where you can go and try on? John Lewis is good for starters, it has a good selection. I bought one of mine in Fenwicks which sold more unusual fabrics and patterns. Karen Millen, if it still exists?

I had a lovely dress with a short edge to edge jacket in Royal Blue from Hobbs

Check out if you have a Boundary Mill near where you live. They have amazing reductions on special day outfits from the likes of Hobbs, Jacques Vert etc. I bought my whole outfit for daughter’s wedding from there without spending an absolute fortune.

If you want to see clothes rather than buy on line once the shops open bear in mind the changing facilities may remain closed. So check return policy carefully. If there is a good, local, independent shop I think I’d look there first. Had great success that way for two weddings. Otherwise as suggested have a look at the John Lewis web site for variety, there is also a virtual personal shopper facility which might be worth a try. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll find something you love.

I agree ( or the price tags!) Having been the MOB twice and MOG (?groom) I simply bought either a dress I liked or a two piece that later could be worn separately if wanted, and wasn’t fussy or over dressy, and wasn’t expensive either.
No awful fascinators, and only a hat once ( because I liked it.)
The matching colour dress ‘n’ coat MOB outfits just weren’t for me.

Hobbs and Phase 8 have some lovely classic dresses that can be worn for other occasions. I don’t do ‘fussy’ myself , I look like I’ve raided the ‘dressing up box’.

Another one in the Lucca camp.
I’ll never be mother of the bride but have been groom’s mum four times. Wore the same plain but beautifully cut little black dress to each, same black patent stilettos and handbag, used different jacket and accessories each time. Black and white, black and yellow, back and multicolour for last two.
Felt fabulous, smart and no money wasted on frills and flounces.

Visgir1 Sun 14-Mar-21 12:20:59

Agree with all the previous suggestions, have a look at recommendations but when I was MOB a few years ago I couldn't find anything I loved. My chum had the same quandary, she was tiny and what she wanted she could find, she was advised to check out a wedding dress designer who was local, who also made MoB dresses he is amazing.
I saw a fabulous dress that was over 2k, a dream dress, which I added to my pin board when I was showing him my thought he said he could "copy" the style.
He found suitable fabric (bright over the top) matched up the lacey bits which were a red. Made me a sort of dinky fascinator, and added some lace to the back of my colour matched shoes . My dress was bespoke to my shape totally unique. The cost 25% of the one I saw.
So check out in your area if there is anyone around like this guy, if nothing grabs you from the suggestions.
Have fun and good luck

I approve! As MOG in this country
I wore a navy dress with a bit of crocheted lace and in a vintage shop I found a white pillbox hat with a navy veil.

No surprise to anyone as I have a wardrobe full of navy items....

I do not recommend this kind of OTT look

timetogo2016 Sun 14-Mar-21 13:25:09

Go to light-in-the-box online Foxglove.....
My dh had my wedding dress made to measure and it cost less than £250.
They do every type of dress and they are so well made.

Lillie Sun 14-Mar-21 13:37:37

Where is the wedding being held? Is it a day and evening event in which case you could have two outfits? What style are the bridesmaids? What colour are the flowers? Do you favour comfort over glamour?
Your name suggests something very flowery.

glammanana Sun 14-Mar-21 13:40:22

All excellent suggestions from GNers I went for Jacques Vert
sleeveless dress with a short jacket from a concession shop at a fraction of the original price also picked up a very large picture hat from E-bay at a super price.
Please remember to check with the Mother of the Groom as to her colour scheme its best considered.

Try ebay!
I got a lovely outfit- Hobbs - for my nieces wedding. I do know that Hobbs fit me so I felt quite confident. It cost under £40.
Looked good.
