Baby vests

I am looking for old fashioned baby vests for my niece’s baby. The front opening cross over vests with little ribbon ties. They are so easy in the first weeks. I can’t find them anywhere. Any ideas of where else to try?

I would ask your niece first what type of vests she would like.

They are still available in some niche shops but I'd personally be wary of anything with ribbons. If babies suck them, they could be a choking hazard.

A similar style but with poppers is available, H&M do packs in organic cotton.

Oh, goodness!

Other retailers are available (probably with a shorter link).

I think that most new mums would considered the vests with ties old fashioned and impractical now. When your tired and time poor with a new born the easier the better and the ones with poppers that Callistemon suggested would probably be appreciated unless of course your niece actually asked for them.

I suggest you ask your niece for her preferences.

avoid anything with ribbons or ties for babies, could be hazardous, probably why not available now.
and apart from that, only get what parents want.

I would ask your niece what she would like you to buy, rather than giving her something which we remember from long ago which is now old fashioned. I remember those vests, cosy but what a pain the ribbons were. Times change. Maybe a voucher would be a good idea rather than foisting your choice on her, if she won't say exactly what she'd like? Personally, that's the way I would go so that the new Mum can choose for herself.

I clearly remember having those cute little vests with the fine ribbon ties for my first born in the early weeks. To be honest I found them more trouble than they were worth . The ribbons were very fine and when exhausted in the middle of the night I literally tied them in knots. I was happy to leave them behind and move onto regular pull on vests. I didn’t have them for baby no 2.

Must say I found the ‘envelope’ neck baby vests fine even for a new baby - they went on quite easily.
Nowadays I dare say many parents use the short sleeved babygro type, with poppers at the crotch - they don’t ride up. They also have the envelope type neck IIRC.

H&M do the wrap over ones but with poppers. They are actual life savers!

They do them with matching bottoms. I use them with my son and they are so much better than over the head ones!

Does your niece actually want you to buy vests?

Yes my daughter used those on my youngest dgd almost exclusively in the beginning as she had open heart surgery at birth and had lots of cords and things those worked so much better for then the babygro ones

These bodysuits from Uniqlo have a crossover top for the newborn size and are a modern take on the old fashioned ones you describe. They do shortsleeved and plain colours too. New mums often get heaps of clothes for newborns though, many of which are never worn.

My DD almost lost a finger on one of those old fashioned vests - the ribbon ones are really dangerous

I binned them all the next day

I’ve chosen something else by mutual agreement with your links.

Oh good. Hope your niece's baby will feel cosy and warm in them. They should stay in place too and ot ride up.
