Am I the only person to sigh at the misuse of these terms?
A post is an individual comment on a thread which (like it says on the tin) is made up of posts — think “string” .
A collection of threads on a topic is called a forum - like this one.
It’s not rocket science nor to quote a post on another thread, does it involve a PhD in Grammar (sic) or Greek

You are not alone.

I sigh when I see them misused, but still sometimes use the wrong one when typing quickly and not giving my brain enough time to keep up.
And for some reason, although I almost always preview my messages, most errors still don't jump out at me until I have posted them.

I agree, Foxy. I have friend who calls a thread a string - drives me bonkers!

I think that both terms were used in the earlier days of internet forums and it's now settled down to 'thread'. But old habits die hard.

The question is , foxy, what do you call a collection of forums, as this area of Gransnet is?

I just wish people would use the quote facility.

Ah, but then you get people complaining that you have quoted a whole post when only responding to one sentence of it. Sometimes, you can't win. 😁
