We pay for our licence by direct debit. It’s actually in my husband’s name. Yesterday I received an email from ‘TV Licensing’ starting ‘Hi [my email address]’ and going on to say that the direct debit for my tv license (sic) would expire that evening and inviting me to click on a link to set up a new D.D. Deleted.

We don't pay a TV licence in France anymore, just saying.

Sounds like a scam.

I have received similar scam emails a few times. I pay by Direct debit so I know I do not owe money.

As the saying goes…..out of the blue Don’t follow it through!

I’m sure GSM wouldn’t be taken in! Sadly, some are - these scammers never give up, but get more cunning and believable.

I wasn’t taken in, but it would be very easy for someone to believe - and presumably to set up a D.D. in favour of the scammer. What alerted me straight away was the mis-spelling of licence.

do direct debits expire ?
i thought they just keep rolling along, if you don't interfere with them.

It is a scam. I've had them before. We pay by direct debit, too, and the last one of these emails that I received told me that they couldn't get the DD from my account.

I forward anything like this to [email protected]

No they just keep going welbeck. The inference with this scam was that ‘they’ had had a problem with collecting it, which would happen if there was insufficient money in your account.
