This story is front page on the Telegraph today but judging by the silence on GN we are underwhelmed to say the least. (I can't see another thread on this topic)

Of course he didn't say exactly what he is putting in the manifesto, just that the thinks grandparents do a wonderful job when they have to take over parenting roles and that it would be nice to be kinder to them.
Quite a lot about the equivalent of adoption leave (which is the equivalent of maternity leave). I presume he means if a grandparent were to formally take on parental responsibility then they could, at that point, get paid leave from their employer. This would be easy to put into law and difficult to apply - I guess a lot of these arrangements do not have a clear start date in the way that adoption does. I also guess it would not happen very often.
The other issue is the financial support for grandparents who take on their grandchildren.
Local authorities paying full fostering allowance to grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren is at the discretion of the LA of the Telegraph is correct. So he might make it compulsory, but not give any more money to LAs to fund?
Lots of enthusiastic words and not much substance? A real vote winner? What do we think?
How do you acknowledge Easter.
