Good for him.

I echo your post 'good for him'

'Never let the truth get in the way of a good story' seems to be today's mantra. So irresponsible and the consequences don't bear thinking about - I mean in general, not just George Clooney's case.

sunseeker Wed 09-Jul-14 10:15:59

Well done George. Will the newspapers take any notice - I doubt it.

whenim64 Wed 09-Jul-14 10:26:57

Good for you, George. I've seen outrageous claims being made, and retractions aren't made - other papers pick up on stories as fact and perpetuate them.

It was interesting to see the interview with White Dee from the Benefits Street programme on This Morning. She was given a chance to refute the allegations about her still claiming benefit and being in Las Vegas (at home drinking a cup of tea when she read that she was living it up in the casinos whilst living on handouts).

Well said, George. A moderate and reasoned response to a ridiculous and irresponsible 'story'.

Ana Wed 09-Jul-14 11:32:50

Well, at least White Dee is no long claiming benefits. That'll make the media lose interest in her.

A very well written piece, good for him!

Aka Wed 09-Jul-14 12:17:24

Law Vegus? I thought it was Magaluf or is that another story?

Aka Wed 09-Jul-14 12:33:05

Las Vegas hmm time for a caffeine fix I think.

Ana Wed 09-Jul-14 12:38:20

That was a previous holiday, Aka! grin

shock

GillT57 Wed 09-Jul-14 16:10:30

well, if it all goes badly for George, and his MiL takes great offence, I will take him. he wont have any problems with my mother as a MiL. Just an offer

Purpledaffodil Wed 09-Jul-14 16:58:45

Form an orderly queue Gill75 grin

Oh to have the clout of a George Clooney! I note the Mail took the story down and I doubt they will be suing for libel over his claim "the Daily Mail makes up stories — they do it several times a week."
Yet there are still some people who continue to believe that if something is written in a newspaper it 'must be true'. I can't express how delighted I am that George C. has made this stand. smile

purple perhaps we could share? Don't want to overwhelm the poor man.

Purpledaffodil Thu 10-Jul-14 13:45:24

Sounds a bit Jeremy Kyle to me GillT57 grin But I suppose one mustn't be greedy. [Lascivious emoticon]

Wouldn't it be great if the Daily Mail started to report responsibly, instead of publishing lies and ridiculous stories. George is not taking this lying down, it seems.
